The UN agency responsible for civil aviation safety standards, Monday (02/22/2016), agreed to prohibit cargo such as lithium-ion batteries on passenger aircraft.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) said the move was taken because the lithium-ion batteries could potentially cause a fire.
Currently, the ICAO said, an interim measure would be used prior to this rule is fully implemented in 2018.
This rule came into effect on April 1 and covers bateria lithium in a laptop that is brought into the cabin by passengers or crew.
Although this prohibition is not binding, but usually all the countries in the world follow ICAO security standards set.
ICAO added, this new ban accommodate the demand of the pilots and the airline considering the potential dangers of lithium-ion batteries.
Many airlines have stopped the transport of batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries.
Two serious cases which triggered lithium-ion batteries overheated occurred in January 2013 and both override the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The first case occurred on Dreamliner aircraft that was parked at the airport in Boston, USA.
The second case belongs maskapal override Dreamliner All Nippon Airways (ANA), which made an emergency landing aircraft must.
As a result of the two incidents, the entire fleet Dreamlinerl grounded for three months pending the outcome of the investigation.
